Spanish-Catalan Team describes their stay in Kosice

KOSICE IN SLOVAKIA

We arrived in Slovakia on Wednesday by bus. The trip was four hours long but we had a nice time on the bus because we talked with the pupils of Comenius and Slovak girls. When we arrived in Kosica the host families were waiting for us and we met them and went home.
The next day all the Comenius people met at the school and we went to see the city and different monuments. We liked so much the city because we think that it is very beautiful. In the afternoon we returned  home and we enjoyed a lot with our host families.
On Friday we met at school and we went to a museum, next we went to a culture centre and we enjoyed a lot because we watched a very funny show about typical Slovak and Roman dances. Then we went to school and we had lunch. Later we went to the gym and we had a nice time with all the Comenius pupils :) .

We liked so much Kosice and we were very happy with our new friends.

Kosice 23.05.2013

The COMENIUS team today have been very busy. First the students and staff received a very warm welcome from the host school and students.
Not every thing always runs to plan especially when visiting the Technical Museum of Kosice when the former President calls into the museum during our talk on mining in the area. The Former President is thrilled to talk to our COMENIUS team and is happy to talk to us about the cites proud heritage and future.
The afternoon gave us chance to visit the local craft shops and see how people are keeping local traditions/crafts alive. This was followed by a visit and history lesson to Miklu's Prison. Local students from our COMENIUS team gave us a very knowledgeable tour of their city A big thank you students.
On returning to school our students were more than happy to re-join their host families for the evening.

A big hello to Mr Carroll and his class x

Kosice Slovakia

Good evening from Kosice Slovakia.
The Comenius group said good bye to Budapest this morning and travelled throughout the day calling into a very beautiful traditional embroidery museum, with thatched traditional housing. Two of our Comenius students very kindly dressed in traditional Hungarian clothing for us.
Our tour then led us to a stunning castle that stood proud in the middle of a magnificent valley.
So on to Slovakia where we will be staying for three nights, students dropped off with host families and staff to a local hotel for a well deserved rest and evening meal.

Hello to all at Shawwood x

Budapest Tuesday

We have spent the day in school, first looking around. The school is very different to Shawwood, no school uniform. The school has three floors, but not a lot of outside area. The students here are very friendly and want to talk to their visitors. The visiting Comenius students are all happy with their host families and are enjoying the Hungarian school experience. I have been looking at new ideas to bring to our school.
Tomorrow we say goodbye to Hungary and hello Slovakia, calling at a craft centre and a castle on the way.

Missing you all at Shawwood x

Slovakia team

We are at the End of our project meeting in HUNGARY, Budapest. We have learnt many things here, for example something about Budapest sights , new words in other languages, made some new friends, we got to know how Hungarian people live and how they act in their personal time.
First day- They came to pick us on station and then some of us went to shopping centre, played volleyball, went to park... Our first feeling was that Hungaian people are very shy and we still have the same opinion. We found out that Hungarian people have other marks and they have other school system : In Hungary the best mark is five and the worst is one. We visited Bakery, Fire station, Hurticultural plant, Bird watching,
Tv studio, ... and lots of historical sights.
We enjoyed it and we hope to stay in touch and keept our new friendships in the future.
                                                                            Thank you.

Hello from Budapest!

It is so warm here, and we love this country. People are really friendly.
And.. On Monday we were in gardenparty, and we ate lots of Hungarian food. It was so good. Akseli split water around the schoolyard, he didn't like that fizzy mineral water and we laughed. Heheh it was so funny:DD
Sightseeing bus was nice and we saw Hungarian buildings, really old church and many other things and henna hunted some souvenirs. Heikki was in the zoo with his hostfamily, Kaisa was in canoeing and they had fun.
Heikki, Akseli and Henna were in bird watching group. We saw many colourful birds, for example a Bee-eater, a Marsh Harrier and a Red Heated Pochard. And also a turtle. They were really cute.
Tomorrow we're going to SLOVAKIA, Kosice!

We will miss them.

20th May Budapest

The sun is still shining here in Budapest. Today the Comenius students and teachers looked at jobs in the district. The group split into three, the first Bird Watching, the second looking at the local Horticultural business and finally the third group visiting the local Bakery and the Fire Station. The students were able to look at these jobs and ask questions, such as "What skills are needed to do those jobs? What if any is the difference between this job in Hungary and the same job in your country?"
The students presented their findings to the whole group. The adults in the group especially enjoyed riding at high speed in the fire truck/engine!
The group were able to enjoy the company of the host families back at school for a BBQ lunch (Hungarian style) cooked by the families. Many, many thanks for this lovely afternoon of dancing, talking and eating.

Regards Lesley James

Hi from home

We are glad to see that you are having fun. We are busy taking part in activities linked to the project. We are having an enterprise day linked to what we learnt in Finland. We are also going to complete our surveys.
However, most interesting is the news that you visited a Television studios. We are hoping to get some of our children to become a news team for the school from September. They will create fortnightly news reports about what is happening in school and around the school community. They will research what is going on, interview people, decide on the topics etc before then putting together the videos. It would be good to have everyone involved because then we can be critical viewers and reviewers. Look forward to hearing more. Kind regards Shaw Wood

Budapest 19th May

Hello from a very hot and sunny Budapest. Today we met up with new friends and old. We visited Chain Bridge, Hero's Square and Buda Castle. We have learnt many interesting facts about the city such as, the monument in Hero's Square is in memory of the 1000th anniversary of the conquest of Hungary. The Memory Stone in the middle of the square has this inscription on it 'HOSEINK EMLEKERE' do you know the translation?
We took a trip to the television studios while we were in the city, our students had the chance to look around the set and sit at the news desk, others enjoyed operating the cameras. Maybe a future in television for some of our students!
