Comenius-cocktail from Hungary - our collective work

25 February 2013

Wish we were with you

We have had great fun hearing about everything that you did in Finland, we liked seeing the pictures of you working together in groups, we liked watching the video about the visit from Angry Birds and we were very interested in seeing how the enterprise village worked - we are hoping that the teachers in England will be able to put something like that together for us because we want to find out more about the jobs around us.
It was also interesting seeing how horses were used to transport goods in the past and seeing all of the tall chimneys that are in Tampere for your different businesses.

Hello!

Today we thought about differences between Finland and other countries. We made posters about it. Here is some similarities and differences.

Similarities:

Spain: In Spain they have a lot of trees. Euro.

Germany: In Germany they have lot's of snow. Euro.

Hungary: Lot's of snow.

England: Same living style.

Differences:

Spain: In Finland are a lot of snow. And in Finland about everyone has sauna in the house. They take sandwiches to school. They eat it about eleven o'clock.

Germany: In Germany they don't have saunas. There is not much lakes.

Hungary: They eat Dinner twice. Different currency. (forintti)

England: Timetables are different and they must use school uniforms.

We are sorry that we didn't write anything about Slovakia because we didn't have any information about it... :(

COMENIUS PROJECT

Today 15th February, we’ve been working in groups of students, one from each country. Firstly we’ve written some differences and similarities about our country and Finland. These are the main points about it:

DIFFERENCES
SIMILARITIES
Education (money)
We don’t wear uniform
Weather (here there is a lot of snow)
We do a lot of sports
Sports (the national sport is ice hockey)

They  take their shoes off when they go inside somewhere .

Secondly, we’ve talked about new jobs, attitudes, possibilities that we’ve learned in Finland. We’ve also talked about whether we’ve seen something that would help us to achieve our goals:

·         Travel abroad to find a job.

·         Learn more languages to be able to find a job.

·         Do more projects like Comenius.

·         Here, in Finland, ‘’Angry Birds’’ were created and Nokia factory as well.

Finally, we’ve talked about the information, skills, and help that we need from school to achieve our goals.

·         Learn more foreign languages.

·         Do some activity during the week about the job that you want to be in the future.

·         Arrange a  business village in Spain, Hungary, Germany and Slovakia.

·         To do specific classes about jobs to learn more about them.

School life differences

Lunch is very different.
Every breaks you must go out to the fresh air.
They take out their shoes.
Can ski to school.
They come to school in different times.
They have less subjects than we do.
They don`t have strict rules in the school.

Family life

There are more children in a family than in Hungary.(2-4)
They always have dinner together and sometimes they do it twice a day.
Finland is very nice and beautiful. The school is very modern. And the hostfamilies are very kind.
Thank you :)

Kids from Hungary

Slovak students in Finland

We came to Finland because we wanted to find out something about other cultures, like Finnish, German, Spanish, Hungarian and British.
We found out some differences and similarities between our countries.
Differences: animals (elk), food (grane food, salt candy), habits (sauna), school life (going outside during breaks, walking without shoes in school, twinned lessons, buffet systen in school canteen), temperature (in winter there is about -20 degrees), ecological system of life,...
Similarities: family life (bed time, both parents are working, same clothing..), jobs, after school activities, sports,

Making computer games is very popular in Finland, for example Angry Birds. We had a meeting with producer from Rovio.

Finland has sofisticated education system. Primary school is only from 0th to 6th grade.

We enjoyed our trip in Finland, we met a lot of new friends a we learned new things.

The trip with the horses

On thursday we went with the bus to the forest.
We walked to a nice fire place and then there were some horses with sleigh's.
We made a nice ride on the horses slide. That was very nice. We saw some moose track's.
Than we made some nice sausages on the fire and warm our hands there.
The snow was so high that we had to made a snowballbattle with the Spanish peopel and Hungarien people.
Our teachers made some nice pictures of us! All pupils and teachers had so much fun at the battle.
And of course the GERMAN won at the snowbattle !!

The food is different to the food in Germany.

Life in Finland

School life
School life in Finland is very differant to the school life in England (Belle Vue Boys´). For an example the school opening times in Finland are much more flexible than the school opening times in Belle Vue.

Furthermore, break times are used more frequently in Finland, the pupils are allowed 15mins break after every lesson, whereas in England pupils get a break after every two lessons. This allows pupils in Finland to have more freedom and time to prepare themselves for the next lesson.

Lunch is very differant in England because in England we have a larger variety of food to choose from, we also can eat from the canteen twice in one day.

In England it is necessary for pupils to wear a specific type of clothes, but in Finland pupils are free to chose what they wear, this allows pupils to express how and what they feel like. This also reflects on the pupils learning. Teachers are also allowed to wear whatever they feel like, in England it is more formal, teachers must follow their dress code.

The enviroment in the classes from what we have seen is more interactive/kinetic learning. This will help improve the listening and learning of the pupils, it makes the work more interesting and more easy to remember.

Behaviour between boys and girls is very relaxed, and boys´ seemed to be more relaxed when girls are around.

Family Life

Family life in Finland is much better than at England, this is because their is always someone to help you with your homework, they play and eat together which bonds the family together.

Children go to sleep usually between nine and ten o clock, this is very much the same to the life in England. Children also get up one hour before school starts to maximise the amount of sleep they get. This will get them less tired and more active.

Looking busy leading the children in discussion.

What I have learnt from Finland

We now know the Bussines-Village. There the kids can watch a job, and after that, they know what job they can do or not. We did not know, that "Angry Birds" comes from Finland. That is really interesting!

Day Two

What a fantastic day! We began with a presentation by the app developers behind Angry Birds to find out how they started, the roles within the company and how they have expanded into new areas so that the company carries on growing and supporting the 260 million users that play Angry Birds.
After that, we were treated to a visit to an enterprise village where a class had been given roles that they had to take on for the day. It was wonderful to see to many children using the opportunity to find out about the different jobs within the region. They also saw the reality of what happens to their pay.

 Tampere Day One

What a wonderful first day in Finland. We have all got to know each other very quickly through some fantastic drama activities. Then we all showed each other our presentations.
Next, we were also treated to some delightful singing by our hosts before going off to watch the children playing in the snow which we were very jealous about.
Hi Comenius friends!! =)

Second adventure started this week, when old and new teachers involved arrived to Finland! Yesterday just observing and eating, today introductions, drama and groupworks. More coming soon...
